I love nuts. *insert joke here*
But really. I remember sitting around a nut bowl at my grandmother’s house as a kid, trying desperately to crack the impossible nuts that we called ‘elephant toes’. I learned later that elephant toes are better known as brazil nuts. They’ll always be elephant toes to me.
For some reason, nuts still bring memories of the holidays. These nuts in particular are a great mixture of textures and flavours and will be gobbled up.
Warning: They’re very addictive.
First you’ll need some nuts. I chose almonds, cashews, and pecans.
And you’ll need a spice mix. This one includes sugar, salt, cayenne, cinnamon, and chili powder.
And how to make the spices stick to the nuts? Egg whites.
Coat your nuts.
If you need some help, call in the big guns. Mr. Scrapey.
Spread your nuts out on a baking sheet.
Bake long and slow, until the egg white mixture is dry. Remove from oven and allow to cool to the touch.
Break up any large pieces.
Watch them get devoured.
